' Alvaro Recoba - the eternal dilemma '

El Chino - like he is called by Inter ultras - was the brightest star of
Uruguayn league and had scored unbelieveble 57 goals in 51 matches with
Uruaguayn national team when he decided to join Inter in 1997. He made his debut
for Inter at Giuseppe Meazza on August 1997. Inter was playing against Brescia
and was 0-1 down when Recoba ran to pitch. When referee whistled the final
whistle it was 2-1 for Inter and the young Uruguayn had scored two spectacular
goals. He won the confidence of ultras but it begun to broke after Euroderby.
It's a little miracle that fans bore him such long time. Many ultras want to get
rid of him as soon as possible and I understand them very well.

Alvaro Recoba is an amazingly gifted football player. He has one of the best
left feet in the world, great technique, good pace and he is very creative. Also
he can walk 90 minutes on the pitch, wonder what he could do and behave like
primadonna. He’s so damn lazy very often. Nobody can make me to understand why
player who earns about 9 million euros per year can’t run and fight 90 minutes
twice in a week. I think that I don’t ask too much. Simply said, his head
isn't on same level than skills. I can't see anything but head is wrong because
he has all tools to be one of the best. Nobody but Recoba himself can solve
problems in his head. This must be done at first!

He plays very irregularly. It’s due to his lazy attitude. Today he scores two
very beautiful goals and give brilliant assist and then he' a shadow next four
matches. He was able to keep most of fans quite satisfied this way but it's not
possible after Euroderby any second longer. Damn, 27-year old guy who has been
professional football player ten years should realize that work is needed to get
results. I dare to say that if he used only 75% his all potential he would be
one of the top scorers in Serie A.

Find the heart Recoba! After the Euroderby we saw Javier Zanetti and Ivan
Cordoba's tears which came from heart when Inter missed the Champions league
final. Recoba was substituted after awful performance but who can believe that
his reaction would have been same. Hardly nobody. Javier Zanetti and Ivan
Cordoba are pure winners and great professionals but Recoba isn't at all at the
moment. Zanetti and Cordoba play superb performances match to match. They have
black and blue hearts. Recoba says only that he has too but nobody can see it.
Find this fighters heart Chino and your performances have gone a mile forward.

What would be the best position for Chino? Like we all know the coach of Inter
– Hector Raul Cuper - uses hardly ever playmaker behind two strikers and some
people say that this is Recoba's position. If Recoba was used behind two
strikers we would almost always win or lose with Recoba. Who wants to put all
eggs in one basket? I don’t and not especially such a weak basket as Recoba.

Chino had to play several matches as left winger and he has all skills to play
as winger, besides willing to defend little bit. That should be never seen again
because Inter faced problems in defence and he didn't play like wingers should
(keep position on the flank and cut in only sometimes) in my opinion. I think
that it’s the best position for him support striker and he seems to prefer it
himself too. Who can imagine better striker partnership than skillfull, creative
Alvaro Recoba and strong bomb man Christian Vieri? I can’t.

However, Inter and Recoba himself confirmed that Chino will stay at Inter
although it was supposed that Inter wants to sell him. I have heard too that
Recoba has said something like this: "I want to show that I deserved a
confidence" and "You will see a real Recoba during the next season". That's
completely a right attitude! If the attitude wasn’t that kind of we wouldn’t
have hope at all. I know that it’s damn easy to speak but I have heard that
Sergio Conceicao and Andres Guglielminpietro have said that they played well
during last two seasons. It’s the first step to admit problems, not deny
problems. Hopefully the Euroderby grew him up as man and as football player. If
this really happened we might see the real Recoba. I want to believe so because
I know what he's able to do on football pitch. The next season will be
absolutely the turning point for his career and only God knows if he's a hero or
traitor after season 2003/2004.

I want to say last words for Chino although he won't read this: The life is
easier for you and for us (fans) if you play like you can.
