Today our club have decided to extend Marco Materazzi’s contract from 2007 to 2009. This news will certainly have mixed emotions among Inter fans as he yet have not managed to convince a section of Inter fans for being worthy of our team – let alone the starting XI.

Marco who is also known as “Matrix” for his aerial abilities made his international debut on 25 April 2001 in Italy's 1-0 win against South Africa in a friendly match. Since then he has frequently been selected among the Italian NT without playing too often. He did however feature in Italy’s last game against Bulgaria in last years EC in Portugal.

On a side note: In season 2000-2001 while at Perugia Marco Materazzi equalled the scoring record for a defender in the Italian Serie A with 12 goals.
