DANIELE ADANI

CAREER

Daniele Adani started his career in Modena. It was the season 91/92 that he received his first match with a professional team, when Modena was playing in the Serie B.
He stayed with Modena for three years before he moved to another team. He had the chance to be a regular in his last season with Modena, which contributed to a transfer to Lazio.

He would only stay in Lazio for four months before he would go to the team that changed his career. He came to Brescia and Mazzone, and this was the team and coach that made him what he is today, according to Adani. Until today he speaks very fondly of Brescia.

When he first came to Brescia the year 1994, they were playing in Serie A, and he immediately became a starter for the team. Sadly for Adani, they became relegated the same year, but Adani showed his support for the team and stayed with Brescia in Serie B for two years. He was now established in the backline of Brescia and one of their most important players in the competition to get their Serie A place back.
Brescia with Adani at the helm, stayed in Serie B for two seasons before they were promoted. 97/98 they would be back in Serie A, but only for one season. Brescia was once again relegated, and once again, Adani sticks with the team.

Daniele Adani made his last season with Brescia the season 98/99 playing in Serie B. After that season he moved to Fiorentina, where his International breakthrough would come. Daniele Adani got to live through the highlights of Fiorentina’s history and the downfall. He played with them in the Champions League and made three seasons with Fiorentina. It was when he played for La Viola that he started to be called up for the Italian National Team. 15th November 2000 was the date that Adani made his NT debut. It was a game against England.
He only made two more appearances after that.

Daniele Adani was with Fiorentina till the very end. He left Fiorentina as a free agent, due to their bankruptcy, and it was Inter that signed him in front of Parma’s eyes. Adani would now start a new adventure where his chances of playing would be smaller. Adani responded to this with saying he would always do his best when called upon.

Adani’s first season with Inter would be somewhat of a disappointment. Not because of performances, but because of lack of performances. At the start of the season he find it really difficult to find a place at Inter, since the same summer Inter bought Fabio Cannavaro. What we could notice was how important he seemed off the pitch. His cherish mood and positive attitude was rubbing off to other players.
Adani once was playing in a three-men defence which was very unusual during Cuper´s era, and he certainly succeeded. However, he would fast go back to the bench.

Adani made some subs during the season, mostly playing as a right back. Then the negative thing happened, which destroyed his entire season. A bad injury meant he had to go through a surgery and was gone for the rest of the season.

During the summer of 2003, many teams encountered Inter over the availability of Adani. Cuper rejected every offer and said that Adani was definitely not for sale. A gesture Adani appreciated.

The season 2003/04, would be Adani’s real season with Inter. As I´m writing this profile, it is February 2004, so the entire season is not played yet. However, Adani has find a place in the new three-men defence that Zaccheroni established. Being the first sub for any player has made so that his playing time grew rapidly. Marco Materazzi was struck with a bad injury for months, and Adani was the first player to replace him.

Sadly, Adani was not called up for the Italian National Team after his injury the season 2002/03, with Inter.

AS A PLAYER

Adani is a very versatile defender, and which is why he is of much use. He can play at any position in the defensive line and in any scheme. The season 2002/03, he was even played as a defensive midfielder in one game, and even that position he succeeded with.

He´s not a fast player at all, but he covers this up with good positional play, albeit not perfect. He´s also very brave and takes initiatives. He likes to make long runs and help out in the offence if the opportunity arrives.

He shine on the pitch and is noticeable, because of his charisma. He is always controlling the defensive line and talk with his team-mates. Lots of gestures with his arms and hands, of where to move. Sometimes though, he can be too late in challenges and then he doesn´t have the pace to cover up his mistake.

On the contrary to Materazzi, Adani is not such a good ball distributor. He´s not very calm when he has the ball, and is more similar to players like Cordoba and Cannavaro when he has the ball. Although, in a game against Atalanta in season 2002/03 when he was played as a right back, you could notice that he has got some technique.

Although Adani isn´t extremely tall, one of his biggest assets are his aerial play. There´s of course the defensive part of it, where he wins a lot of aerial challenges. But one of the things that characterise him the most is his expertise when it comes to attacking set-pieces. He´s one of the defenders who is the most deadly in front of the goal. He times his jumping perfectly, and he gives us an extraordinary weapon on corners especially.

Daniele Adani is foremost a team player. He doesn´t complain when being benched and whenever he plays, he give the coach a headache since it´ll be very difficult to bench him the coming game. He´s very loyal and he does his job most of the time. He can either play as a wide defender in a back-three or as a libero, which makes him a very usual player for any team.

Season 2003/04 must be a great success for Adani personally due to the amount of playing time he has finally received with Inter.
