CAREER
Believe
it or not, but Toldo comes from the Milan youth team, where
he has spent a couple of years. That was in the years of 88/89
(The Golden season) and 89/90 where he was with them. But
it was just the youth team.
Then he had only one season left where he wasn´t the
first keeper. It was when he moved to Verona the season after
his spell with Milan was over. But then his career as a first
keeper started. First in Serie C2 and the season after in
Serie C1.
Then
the season 93/94 he moved to the club where he made a name
of himself. Fiorentina and Firenze was the next step into
his career. He immidately became the first keeper and was
their first keeper until he moved to Inter. Became a bit of
an icon there along with Batistuta.
The
highlight of Toldo´s career though has to be the Euro2000
where he was the first keeper. Who can forget about the awesome
match against Holland? In that match he got the recognition
he never really had before. He became one of the best keepers
in the world. He replaced Buffon in a better way that not
even Buffon himself could pull off.
That
was fast about his career.
AS A PLAYER
Toldo
is a GIANT! He is pretty much skillfull on all areas. Most
keepers are either line-keepers or aerial-keepers. Toldo is
both. Since he is 196 cm tall he has a huge advantage on all
areas. Especially in the air. His timing when coming out and
grabbing the ball in the air is perfect. He very rarely makes
mistakes there, and I have never felt so secure with an Inter
keeper since I started follow them carefully. Pagliuca is
an icon, but he was never very good in the air like Toldo
is. Pagliuca is the perfect example of a line-keeper with
awesome reflexes.
Reflexes is also a thing that Toldo has. You might think his
size might hamper him there, but he´s extremely quick
minded and his reflexes are very impressive.
Toldo
is also very experienced and seem to be a great vocal keeper
too. He shouts a lot and shows commitment in every match and
is helping the backline to stop him from having to save an
awesome goalchance.
Toldo
is for me the best keeper in the world. Unlike other great
keepers, he isn´t so mistake prone. I really didn´t
see any goals last season that can mainly be blamed on Toldo.
He impressed me in a way that I could never imagine. His match
against Bologna will never be forgotten where he practically
single handly saved three points for us.
Toldo has what it takes for us to win the Scudetto. He hungers
for the Scudetto, he´s a worldclass goalkeeper and he
has been able to comit himself to Inter. You might think that
losing the final in the Euro2000 might be his worst memory.
Or being benched with Italy in this years WC and to be knocked
out. But his worst memory according to himself is the lost
Scudetto with Inter.
